Board Members

The Watterson Family Foundation Board of Trustees is a dedicated group of leaders committed to driving our mission forward. With diverse expertise in business, philanthropy, education, and community development, they provide strategic guidance to ensure our initiatives create lasting impact. Their collective vision and leadership help us build meaningful programs that empower individuals and strengthen communities.

Jeff Baxter

Jeff is a Partner and the Head of Platform at 11 Tribes, an investment firm that allocates capital and care to early-stage founders. As Head of Platform, his primary focus is to catalyze the firm’s relationships and resources to foster the growth and flourishing of their portfolio companies.

Prior to 11 Tribes, Jeff spent over a decade at a private equity real estate firm based in Chicago. Jeff is a graduate of Wheaton College (IL). He and his wife Emily and their three children live in Charleston, SC where they enjoy fostering authentic relationships through tennis, church and delicious Lowcountry fare.

Gary Harden

Gary is the founding member and manager of Harden Law LLC, operating a virtual firm out of Northwest Ohio. Formerly Chair of the Tax and Mergers & Acquisitions Practices of a regional law firm, he now practices on a national platform with a network of professionals, designing and implementing value-added business–tax strategy, in addition to his work with nonprofits.

Gary has collaborated with the Ohio General Assembly and the Ohio Bar Association in writing legislation and providing guidance including Ohio’s LLC law, and other business statutes, and with the US Treasury Department/IRS writing and providing official comment on the tax treatment of LLCs, corporate dissolutions, and Mergers and Acquisitions.

Gary is a regular speaker and author on topics involving taxation and business law and has taught as an adjunct professor at the University of Toledo College of Law. Gary and his wife, Sherrie, reside in Swanton, OH.

In his free time, Gary enjoys mentoring young adults, hiking, camping, kayaking, hunting, and fishing. He is active with Scouting America (Boy Scouts of America) and serves as a Cantor in his church.

Gary is peer-reviewed and has been recognized as among the Best Lawyers in America every year since 1994, four times as Lawyer of the Year in his practice area. He has also received the Heroism Award from the BSA and the Certificate of Merit from the National Red Cross for saving a life.

Ryan Kaczmarek

Ryan is a partner and Senior Stewardship Advisor at HIS Envoys Group. For the last 13 years, Ryan has helped people find freedom and purpose while working in both jobs in both Finance and Ministry. Prior to working at HIS Envoys Group, Ryan worked at a boutique RIA firm in the Chicagoland area as the Director of Financial Planning. Previous to this, he was the Stewardship Pastor at Willow Creek Community Church. He and his wife Laura have 5 children. While not working or taking care of his kids, Ryan enjoys reading, exercising, and traveling.

Marcia Sloan Latta

Dr. Latta is the Vice President for University Advancement at the University of Findlay in Ohio where she oversees fundraising, alumni and parent relations, the nationally-known Mazza Museum, and community outreach.

A strong believer in the value of philanthropy, education, and community involvement, Dr. Latta is a frequent presenter across the nation as well as internationally on development and board governance issues.

She is active in many civic and professional organizations and also enjoys reading, exercising, visiting museums, traveling, and cooking.

Cynthia Martin

Cynthia Primo Martin is a retired nonprofit executive with expertise in agency management, fund development, and marketing. Previously a corporate human resources officer, she has served as a director or trustee for numerous organizations, including the University of Delaware, Delaware Community Foundation, and Christiana Care Health Systems.

Ms. Martin founded the Trustees of Color initiative to promote board diversity and organized the Quintin E. Primo Jr. Lecture Series, bringing global human rights leaders to Delaware to discuss race and reconciliation. She has chaired many capital campaigns and served on state boards, including the Delaware Superior Court’s Board on Professional Responsibility.

Her work has earned awards such as the YWCA’s Woman of Distinction and the Delaware State Chamber of Commerce’s Josiah Marvel Cup. Currently, she serves on the Watterson Family Foundation Board, participates in Lisa Blunt Rochester’s campaign finance committee, and sings with Delaware Choral Arts.

Charlie Clark

Charlie Clark, brings over 25 years of marketing and public relations expertise to her role as Vice President of Communications for the Hilton Head Island-Bluffton Chamber & VCB. A seasoned communications professional, Charlie has been instrumental in securing national media attention for Hilton Head Island and Bluffton through outlets such as TheToday Show, The Wall Street Journal, Food Network, HGTV,Forbes, Southern Living, and many others.

Prior to her current role, Charlie served as a strategic analyst/planner at national ad agency BBDO. She also led her own successful PR firm, specializing in healthcare and political communications, providing strategic guidance, including crisis communications, for a diverse range of clients.

Charlie’s PR and marketing work has earned numerous national accolades, and she currently serves on the U.S. Travel Association’s NationalCommunications Advisory Board, contributing to industry-wide discussions on communications strategy and media relations.

Committed to her community, Charlie has volunteered for several organizations and served on the boards of the Hilton Head Boys &Girls Club, Junior Jazz Foundation, Literacy Foundation of the Lowcountry, and other regional nonprofits. A resident of Hilton Head Island since 2001, she and her husband Tom are proud parents of two sons, Brennan and Cameron.

Derek Jenkins

Derek is an experienced executive with an extensive background in retail management, operations, and consulting. He began his career as a management trainee at Roses Discount Stores, quickly demonstrating his aptitude for leadership and strategic thinking. Derek's career trajectory led him to Target Corporation, where he held pivotal roles eventually becomingSenior Vice President of the Northeast region, managing operations across 461stores and 75,000 team members. Additionally, Derek served as SVP of ExternalRelations for Target Canada.

Transitioning from corporate roles, Derek expanded his expertise into private equity. As Senior Vice President of Shopko Hometown andChief Operations Officer at Fiesta Mart where he drove operational excellence and strategic growth. Currently, Derek serves as Director of Operations for online groceries at Amazon, where he has contributed to advancing innovative solutions in the digital grocery sector.

Born in Naples, Italy, to a military family, Derek moved 31times before settling in Hilton Head Island, SC, with his wife Joyce and daughter Lauren. He holds a BBA from Appalachian State University and remains actively engaged as a board member for Standard Holding Corporation and BlacQuity.

Derek is committed to community and professional development, contributing to organizations like Sea Pines CSA, Brooklyn Academy of Music, Rush Philanthropic, and Freedom Valley YMCA. Outside of work, he enjoys family time, fitness, real estate investing, and home renovations. With a proven track record of leadership and service, Derek brings exceptional value to every endeavor.

Omolola Campbell

Omolola “Lola” Campbell is a senior derivatives counsel inthe financial industry with a career spanning major institutions like LehmanBrothers, Citibank, HSBC, and Wells Fargo. A native of Hilton Head Island, SC,Lola hails from one of the oldest native families in the Spanish Wells community. Her Gullah heritage is deeply rooted in her family legacy, including her great-grandfather, Reverend Solomon Campbell, the first Gullah teacher born on Hilton Head, and her grandfather, a craftsman who built bateaus and homes for locals.

Lola earned a BBA in International Business from theUniversity of Georgia and a JD from Howard University School of Law. Her career has taken her to major cities such as Atlanta, Washington, D.C., New York, andCharlotte, providing her with diverse professional and personal experiences.

In 2020, Lola returned to Hilton Head to preserve and promote Gullah culture. She founded Binya, which includes a gift shop and aCultural Impact Consulting division, and launched Gone Gullah, a lifestyle brand celebrating Gullah heritage.

Lola is the Board Chair for Historic Mitchelville Freedom Park, a Trustee of Queen Chapel A.M.E. Church, and a Board Member of the HiltonHead Island-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce, where she co-founded the Gullah Geechee Business Coalition. A passionate advocate for diversity and cultural awareness, Lola’s work uplifts her community while preserving its rich heritage.

Their expertise, creativity, and dedication ensure that our mission is carried out with excellence every day.

Katherine Louw

Katherine is the managing consultant for the Watterson Family Foundation in Hilton Head, SC. With more than 20 years of experience in the nonprofit sector, she lives amazed by the good that occurs when human and financial capital come together to address complex issues in our community. Katherine is active in her Middle TN community, currently serving on the boards of Leadership Sumner and Young Life Sumner County, as well in various capacities with her church, Hendersonville First United Methodist Church.

She is married to Rico, a Dane she met while studying abroad after college in Spain. Her pride and joy are their two teenage daughters, Emma and Hanne. On weekends, when not on the sideline of a court/field supporting her cheerleader or volleyball player, Katherine loves exercise, reading, being outdoors, travel, and dinner with friends.

Ally Hughes

Ally Hughes began her career in professional writing with an emphasis on fine art and digital media, eventually working with entertainment-focused agencies as a producer for emerging technology platforms. She then spent over a decade working in higher education as a member of an evolving Marketing and Communications team, serving as the Director of University Communications with a focus on crisis communications, among other roles at Savannah College of Art and Design.

In 2021, she joined Watterson Brands and currently serves as the Vice President of Marketing and PR, where she enjoys the multifaceted entrepreneurial spirit and charitable approach to businesses. As part of her role and responsibilities, Ally oversees all public relations and advertising efforts and is a liaison in the Lowcountry community for the Watterson Family Foundation and its initiatives.

Ally lives in Bluffton, SC with her husband Hue; children Jonah, Morgan, Rileigh, and their dog, Emma. She still paints, has a penchant for midcentury modern design, and is an avid baker – with a passion to perfect sourdough loaves – to the benefit of her family and friends.

Sherri Todd

Sherri is the Executive Assistant to Billy Watterson, Chief Executive Officer of Watterson Brands and co-founder of the Watterson Family Foundation.

Prior to joining Watterson Brands, Sherri’s degrees in hospitality management and paralegal studies led to 25 years of employment at Turning Stone Resort and Casino, serving in various business and hospitality roles, including 15 years as the Assistant to the Chief Operating Officer.

Sherri recently relocated to the Lowcountry from upstate New York with her husband and furry friend and is enjoying the beautiful year-round warm weather.    She is a proud mom to her son, Ryan, a college student, and daughter Madeline, who just blessed the family with a granddaughter.
