Empowering Generational Change

Join us in creating opportunities for a brighter future in South Carolina’s Lowcountry region.

A breathtaking sunset over a South Carolina Lowcountry marsh, viewed from a wooden boat launch. The sky glows with warm hues of orange, pink, and purple, reflecting off the calm tidal waters. Tall spartina grass sways gently, and moss-draped live oaks frame the peaceful scene.

Our Mission and Vision

At the Watterson Family Foundation, we believe in empowering communities to break free from the cycle of poverty. Our mission is to provide essential resources and opportunities that foster generational wholeness in South Carolina’s Lowcountry. We envision a future where every individual, regardless of their background, has access to a brighter and more purposeful life.

We partner with dedicated non-profit organizations that share our commitment to leveling the playing field. By collaborating with these organizations, we aim to create pathways for marginalized and vulnerable populations, ensuring they have the tools needed to pursue their dreams and aspirations.

Our approach is holistic, addressing not just immediate needs but also the underlying issues that perpetuate inequity. We focus on education, health, and economic empowerment, recognizing that true change comes from a comprehensive strategy that uplifts entire communities.

Through our initiatives, we strive to inspire hope and resilience. We understand that change takes time, but with persistence and collaboration, we can make a lasting impact. Together, we can transform lives and build a future where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

Join us in our mission to create a more equitable society. Together, we can break the barriers that hold individuals back and pave the way for a brighter tomorrow.

Building a Brighter Future Together

The Lowcountry Legacy Fund and the Island Legacy Fund have been established to support these efforts. Please read more to learn how these vehicles may be appropriate to serve your non-profit organization.

The Lowcountry Legacy Fund

The foundation of Burnt Church Distillery is deeply rooted ina culture of purpose beyond profit. We give back to our community, honoring the past while looking forward to a brighter future for all.

TheLowcountry Legacy Fund is investing in a better future for our community — supporting equity, culture, and education across the Lowcountry. Our research into Burnt Church Road revealed powerful stories of resilience, from Bluffton’s early Black-owned businesses to Mitchelville, the first self-governed Freedmen’s town. While we can’t rewrite history, we can uplift its legacy by funding initiatives that preserve culture, expand education, and create economic opportunity. Every purchase at Burnt Church Distillery contributes to the Lowcountry Legacy Fund, and you can also make a direct donation below to support this important work.
